1940-1960 - Circle Tracks, street raced, L.A. river races
From an early age the yearning to race was in Don’s blood. During the 1940s and 1950s he raced everything from street cars in the L.A. riverbed, to midgets, to the dry lake at El Mirage. His keen interest would be straight line quarter mile racing. With his older brother Harold sharing his interest, the pair would become feared racers at Santa Ana as early as 1950, and Pomona Fair Grounds by the middle of the decade. There were few competitors who could match the speed of their line of Flathead and “Jimmy” powered cars.
